End of Year Letter
Dear Parent / Carer,
RE: End of Year and Information for next year
As we near the end of our third year, I would like to take this opportunity to reflect on our achievements to date, and to thank you for all your support this year.
Achievements this year
This year we were inspected by OFSTED and graded as outstanding in all areas. We’re thrilled that OFSTED recognised the hard work that happens every day here on the part of staff, children and families. This is an excellent achievement, but what makes One Degree a special place is our relentless desire to improve every day. In line with this we’re looking forward to getting even better next year and beyond – being better every day remains the key focus for us.
We are also proud of the academic and personal results of our children this year. Highlights include:
Strong KS1 SATS outcomes in Reading, Writing, Maths and Science with Enfield highlighting the exceptional progress made by children since reception. This reflects the hard work by all the year 2 team
88% of Year 1 passed the national phonics screener test. Nationally only 81% of children pass this important reading test. This is due to the hard work children have been doing at school and at home. I’d like to thank you for your support with this and ask you to continue to ensure home learning is effective next year
In Reception, the number of children achieving and exceeding a ‘good level of development’ (GLD) is again above national and local averages. Thank you for all the support with home learning, Boromi, reading and working with your children
Excellent behaviour and engagement with a wide range of cultural experiences, trips and visits
Staff roles Next Year
We are excited to welcome some strong new team members to the One Degree family next year. Gary Collison joins us from Enfield Heights as Assistant Principal leading on inclusion, safeguarding and behaviour and co-teaching in Year 3 with Jamie; Sandyha Cunniah joins us from Van Gogh Primary school as teacher of Year 2; Tamsin Bradbury joins us as a Teach Frist trainee working alongside Alice in Year 1.
Key contacts for each year group are as follows:
Reception - Maria, Muna
Year 2 - Sandyha, Lizzie
Year 1 - Alice, Tamsin
Year 3 - Jamie, Gary, Tsitsi, April
Head of School
The governors and I are delighted to confirm that following a robust assessment process, Jo Addleton has been appointed as Head of School. As co-founder of One Degree, Jo has worked tirelessly to establish our school, and to create a high performing culture of aspiration. I know you’ll want to join me in congratulating her on this appointment. Jo will continue to work to deliver the vision for the Academy, and will take over the day to day running of One Degree. Please bear with her as she takes on this new role, and be mindful that will have less availability than she has had in the past.
Whilst I remain as Principal, and continue to work alongside Jo, I will also be working in part to support the new leadership team of a secondary academy locally to help share the One Degree ethos and to drive up standards in the area. I’ll also be working to ensure our move to Chase Farm is smooth and that our new buildings provide the best possible facilities for our children.
Uniform, Punctuality, and Attendance
Thank you for your help in making sure children are on time for school every day at 8:30 and in correct uniform. We continue to strive to have the highest expectations with regards the uniform for our students and I wrote to you all last week to clarify expectations in this area.
The term dates for next year are on our website and attached. All dental and medical appointments should be made outside of school time. Staff are in training from 1st to 8th September but admin/reception opens on the 28th August and the team are available if you have any queries/questions. Term begins with Launch Day on the 9th September. Appointments slots will be opened on the 28th August for booking. Please ensure children are in school uniform at launch day. School starts fully on the 10th at 8:30am.
Over the summer
I recognise that long summer holidays can be challenging times for parents. Lavender Blu are running a summer school with lots of fun activities. Discounts are available for Pupil Premium children and we can support if finances are difficult. Please speak to us if you need any help with this. See the enclosed ‘Things to do’ sheet with ideas for keeping children entertained and healthy over the break. Please also keep your children busy reading and writing. Encourage them to keep a daily diary writing a sentence or 2 about their day so they practice those important fine motor skills.
I’d like to take this opportunity to thank you once again for your fantastic support over the year and to wish you a pleasant summer break. We very much look forward to seeing you again on the 9th September for launch day.
