End of term letter - Dec 18

Dear parent / carer,

As we near the end of the year, I would like to take this opportunity to reflect on the past year, and to clarify arrangements for the end of term and progress review day.

Academy Progress

This calendar year has been incredibly busy; we’re really happy with the progress children have made including 81% of last year’s Reception achieving a ‘good’ level of development, and 100% of last year’s Year 1 passing the national phonics screener. Both of these results place us significantly above the national and local average.

This term we were inspected by the Department for Education who were incredibly positive about our school, and the progress children are making. We’re looking forward to improving even more next term in line with our idea of being ‘better every day’.

Our inspection highlighted that children have made great strides in reading, writing and maths. This is really helped by the practise they are doing at home. I’d like to thank you for your support with this and ask you to continue to use the Home learning videos, Mathletics, Reading books, Boromi and other materials at home to help your child succeed.

It’s been great to welcome so many of you in for Family Learning every Thursday morning. We’ve learned lots about supporting our children at home, and been into lessons to see how children are doing in class. Thanks to those of you who were able to attend - we very much look forward to welcoming even more of you next term at 9:00 am each Thursday morning.

Thank you for your efforts in making sure children are on time for school and in correct uniform. We know that along with our partnership with you, the single most important factor in children’s educational success is their attendance at school. A huge well done to those of you who have ensured children have 100% attendance. Please continue to avoid scheduling medical or dental appointments in the school day and always send children to school unless they are severely ill or infectious – it really matters.

End of Term – Friday 21st December

Term ends at 12:00 on Friday the 21st December. We’d like to invite parents to join us for a mince pie and a drink at 10:45, followed by our end of term assembly at 11:00. Due to space in our temporary site, it will be a bit of a squeeze so please be prepared for this and limit yourselves to 1 parent visitor per child if possible. For those who wish to use the school bus, this will leave the Academy at 12:00, and will be at Pymmes park at roughly 12:15.

Progress Review Day – Tuesday 8th January

Parent Volunteers – Monday 7th January

Finally, in line with our drive for continuous improvement, the One Degree staff team will be working hard on the afternoon of the 7th January to improve our playground and outside area. We have lots of exciting plans, and would welcome any parents who would like to come and help out to make them a reality. If you have any skills with carpentry, DIY, or just want to lend a pair of hands, you’d be most welcome. Please come to the academy at 1:30 if you’d like to get involved or speak to Maria in Reception.

Can I take this opportunity to thank you for the continued support of our growing school and to wish you a very Happy Christmas and New Year.
