Change to school day – 3pm finish

Dear Parent/Carer,

RE: Change to school day – 3pm finish

I am writing to let you know that we are making a change to the end of the school day. From Monday 10th December 2018, our day will finish slightly earlier at 3:00pm rather than 3:30pm. This is due to concerns raised by parents, teachers and other local stakeholders about safety. Last year, we finished at 3:30pm to avoid clashing with the end of Heron Hall’s school day; this year they too are finishing at 3:30pm, which is now impacting significantly on our school community.

We have been monitoring the impact of this change, and it is my view that having 800 older children leaving the site at the same time as our young children is not safe. On top of this, parents have fed back to me that they have experienced various difficulties getting to the school site, with significant traffic building up on Queensway. I am keen to avoid children and parents being placed in potentially dangerous situations amid the mass of children all leaving from one small exit, and to avoid any unnecessary delays.

We have been able to slim down unstructured time at the start of the day and in afternoon lessons to avoid any major impact on key lessons.

School Bus / After School Clubs

For parents who still wish to make use of the school bus service, up until Christmas, the bus will arrive at the bus stop near Pymmes Park at roughly 3:30pm, returning to school at 3:45pm. Any children not collected from the bus stop by 3:45pm will be returned to school with the bus. We will review this after Christmas, and hope to make pick up at the park bus stop earlier (3:15pm) if possible.

After school clubs will now finish at 4:00pm and children will need to be collected at this time. For parents who use our after school wrap around care service with Lavender Blu, there will be no change of timings, or extra cost attached.

I’d also like to remind you that parents can drop children off at school for breakfast club from 8:05 am. This is completely free of charge and allows children to get a healthy and fun start to the day.

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank you for your ongoing support and understanding as we continue to grow our new school together.

Sincerely,

Aidan Sadgrove Principal
